Marceline The Vampire Queen

The thing that takes the longest to make for this costume is Marcelines bass, but they way we did it, it can be done with about 4 hours full out work.
Her 'Main Outfit' in the show is the one shown below

For her costume you will need...

  • Long Black Wig
  • Grey Singlet Top
  • Denim Jeans
  • Red Boots

For the Bass you will need...

  • Cardboard
  • Red Paint
  • Maroon Paint
  • Black Paint
  • Grey Paint
  • White Paint
  • Tin Foil
  • 'Plank' Of Wood
  • Duct Tape
  • Glue

For the costume, we went to the local op shop and got the needed clothes from there, I suggest doing that with all clothing objects as its heeappps cheaper than getting them brand new!
We got the wig off Ebay- this can be risky, but if you look at the seller history and ratings, if they have 90+ positive feedback they should be rather trust worthy. The ones we got from were very good and arrived to us in about 3 weeks coming from China to New Zealand. If you want to know the users, feel free to ask.

Heres how to do the Bass...

To start off we got cardboard boxes and folded them out so the weren't a box anymore and cut it in half, as you can see in the photo. We painted it white so that the red paint would look nicer and drew on the end of her bass. We copied it from a still in the programme, drew it on and cut it out.

You need to make two of these so they can sit back to back once you have put the fret board in.

Secondly, we put the 'Plank' of wood in securing it down with glue and tape on one of the slips of the cardboard. Then when it was secure we put the other slip of cardboard on top and glued it down also.

When that one was dry, we taped up the ends as seen in the photo so that it couldn't come undone.

Its not in this photo, but at the other end of the bass we wrapped more cardboard around the bottom for the tuning pegs to sit.

You now have the main structure of the Bass.

In this photo you can see the cardboard at the bottom of the bass for the tuning pegs. (Ignore the other items :3) The fretboard is painted white and we attempted to paint the rest of it, but didnt like the colour (Ignore that part)

This is the Bass after the first coat of paint. Its the first red color  After painting the back and the front of it, proceed to paint of the strings black, all the buttons and knobs grey

This is the bass finished! As you can see, we added the tuning pegs, which is just tinfoil taped to it. We also painted on the frets with grey paint, the strings with black paint, and a few more details down the bottom ( :
